State-Approved Courses

Anyone who wants to become a better driver can attend one of the two state-approved traffic schools in Montana. Classes run about five hours and begin at $60.

Montana has no online or home-study options.

Ticket Dismissal/Point Reduction

Attending a state-approved traffic school will not lower your points or dismiss your ticket; you may be required to attend by order of the judge on your case. If your license got suspended, traffic school decreases your license reinstatement fees by 50 percent.

Insurance Discounts

Check with your insurance company. Some offer insurance discounts if you complete the traffic school course. Mature driver improvement courses are also available for drivers who are 50 and older. These courses are sponsored by organizations such as the American Association of Retired Persons and the National Safety Council.

Cost and Other Considerations

The traffic school charges approximately $60 to attend the class, on top of any other fees incurred for your violation.

Replacing a Lost Completion Certificate

If you lost your certificate, contact the traffic school you attended for a reprint. Additional shipping changes may apply.
